Korean Language Gains Ground in Kazakhstan’s Astana

The Korean Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea has launched a new program to support South Korean language courses at schools in Astana, Kazakhstan for the first half of 2026.

The initiative, which started on February 3, currently covers three schools - Alpamys School, Republican Physics and Mathematics School, and Neotech Digital School. Classes are scheduled to run from February through May, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The program was first piloted in November last year at Alpamys School, where it operated for two months. Following strong student interest, the initiative has been expanded to include additional schools. To meet growing demand, the Korean Cultural Center is providing native Korean language instructors, supporting both language learning and cultural exchange.

Director of the Korean Cultural Center Koo Bon-chul noted that interest in South Korea continues to rise across Kazakhstan. He highlighted the increasing number of schools requesting Korean language courses and stressed that the program marks an important step toward introducing regular Korean language classes in Kazakh educational institutions.
