During the 13th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan Intergovernmental Council in Astana, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Kyrgyz Cabinet Chairman Adylbek Kasymaliev discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation.
Key talks focused on trade, industrial collaboration, investment, energy, water management, agriculture, transport, logistics, and tourism, with bilateral trade between the two countries rising 21 per cent to $1.4 billion in the first eight months of 2025, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
Agricultural trade grew 42 per cent to $326 million, with over 80 per cent being Kazakh exports.
Bektenov highlighted the role of Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sadyr Japarov in elevating the strategic partnership and pledged continued cooperation to meet shared goals. Kasymaliev emphasized that prior agreements reached during presidential visits have strengthened bilateral ties, especially in energy, water supply, and investment.
Mountain tourism also emerged as a priority, with discussions on restoring routes to Khan Tengri Peak, located on the border of both countries. Cultural cooperation continues to flourish, including Kazakhstan Film Days in Bishkek and events celebrating composer Nurgisa Tlendiyev, while the Golden Bridge of Kazakh-Kyrgyz Friendship serves as a symbol of intercultural dialogue.
The meeting concluded with the signing of the Protocol of the 13th Intergovernmental Council session, reaffirming both governments’ commitment to deepening cooperation across all key sectors.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan has accredited 170 international observers for the early parliamentary elections scheduled for November 30, 2025.
