Kyrgyzstan has suspended the operation of all cryptocurrency mining farms until March 2026, as part of efforts to conserve electricity amid ongoing energy challenges.
The decision was announced by Kamchybek Tashiev, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, who said the measure was adopted in coordination with Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.
“Anyone who attempts to restart mining operations will face criminal liability,” Tashiev cautioned, underscoring the government’s strict stance on illegal energy consumption.
Despite the restrictions, Tashiev assured citizens that Kyrgyzstan does not plan to impose rolling blackouts, noting that authorities are working to manage limited power supplies efficiently. “We must use electricity responsibly and avoid wasting it. Indeed, this year water levels are low and production has decreased, but we will do everything possible to ensure we get through the winter successfully,” he said.
The temporary ban on crypto mining highlights the government’s push to stabilize the national energy grid, heavily reliant on hydropower, which has been affected by drought and declining water resources in recent months.
