Multi-Organ Donation in Pavlodar Saves Two Lives in Kazakhstan

A recent multi-organ donation in Pavlodar has provided life-saving transplants for two patients on Kazakhstan’s national waiting list.

The operation took place at City Hospital No. 1, where doctors retrieved organs from a 44-year-old deceased donor from the Pavlodar region. The donor’s heart and kidneys were successfully transplanted into recipients, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

“The successful transplantation and saving of two patients were made possible thanks to the donor family’s decision and the seamless coordination of medical specialists at every stage,” the Ministry of Health stated.

The procedure was carried out under the guidance of the Republican Center for Transplant Coordination and High-Tech Medical Services. Transplant surgeons from the National Scientific Oncological Center and the UMC Corporate Fund also participated, ensuring that the organs were promptly delivered to patients registered in the Unified National Register of Donors and Recipients.

As of August 10, 4,384 patients remain on Kazakhstan’s national waiting list for organ transplants. This includes 3,890 adults and 90 children awaiting kidney transplants, 201 adults and 21 children in need of liver transplants, 25 adults and 2 children waiting for lungs, 143 adults and 6 children for hearts, and 4 adults and 2 children requiring combined heart-lung transplants.

“These numbers highlight the pressing need to further develop Kazakhstan’s organ donation and transplantation system,” the ministry emphasized.

Kazakhstan ranks among the leading countries globally capable of performing heart and lung transplants.
