A new international tourist rail route is set to connect Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, as regional officials move to expand cross-border travel and tourism across Eurasia.
The new train service will operate between Dushanbe and Almaty, according to announcements made during the 84th meeting of the Council for Railway Transport of CIS member states in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Tajikistan.
The project is part of broader efforts to launch new tourism-focused rail routes linking countries across the region.
Additional tourist train routes under consideration include connections between Armenia and Georgia, as well as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The launch date for the new services has not yet been announced.
Head of the Passenger and Freight Operations Department Oleg Nikitin said that the routes will be developed based on economic feasibility studies and marketing research aimed at boosting regional tourism demand and passenger traffic.
