President Tokayev Hails Transport Sector as Engine of Kazakhstan’s Economic Growth

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated transport industry professionals on their professional holiday, underlining the sector’s critical contribution to Kazakhstan’s economic development.

In a speech delivered at a ceremonial event, the president called the transport sector a strategic driver of national progress and a key indicator of economic performance, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

“Kazakhstan is one of Eurasia’s principal transit hubs and holds tremendous potential in the field of transport and logistics,” Tokayev said.

He highlighted the ongoing development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which facilitates trade among China, Central Asia, and Europe.

The president noted the opening of a joint logistics center in Xi’an, China, under the Belt and Road Initiative, which is expected to significantly boost international cargo volumes.

President Tokayev also detailed infrastructure projects underway to strengthen the sector, including the construction of new railways, logistics centers, and storage facilities. “Our transport industry must be advanced, modern, and globally competitive,” he stated.

The president noted that plans are in place to upgrade 11,000 kilometers of railway lines and build or modernize an additional 5,000 kilometers. He also announced the launch of the Trans-Kazakhstan Railway Corridor and the construction of the 323-kilometer Moiynty-Kyzylzhar line, along with reconstruction work on the Darbaza-Maktaaral and Ayagoz-Bakhty routes.

President Tokayev expressed confidence that these large-scale efforts would enhance Kazakhstan’s role in global trade and ensure sustained economic growth.
