S. Korea, Kazakhstan Sign Deal to Develop Alatau Smart City

Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev has met with Kim Bok-hwan, President and CEO of South Korea’s Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND), in Astana.

The meeting followed up on October negotiations in Seoul, where Kazakhstan showcased Alatau Smart City as a strategic project. Bozumbayev noted strong interest from Korean companies in supporting the project, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

KIND could participate in infrastructure construction including energy, water supply, wastewater treatment, and waste recycling, through EPC contracts or development formats. The talks also explored logistics and port infrastructure projects.

Bozumbayev proposed opening a KIND office in Kazakhstan to facilitate cooperation. A memorandum of understanding on Alatau Smart City was signed between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Construction, the Alatau City Authority, and KIND.
