Kyrgyz Chess Prodigy Strikes Gold at World Schools Championship in US

The Kyrgyz Chess Union has announced that Edisa Berdibaeva claimed a gold medal at the FIDE World Schools Team Championship in the US.

The tournament was held in Washington, bringing together 286 young chess players from 48 countries, representing 55 school teams worldwide, The Caspian Post reports per Kyrgyz media.

Kyrgyzstan was represented by the team from School-Gymnasium No. 11 in Karakol, which had earned its spot after winning the national school team qualifiers.

Over the course of eight rounds, the Kyrgyz team recorded two victories, four draws, and two losses, securing 8 match points and finishing 28th among 55 competing teams.

A particular point of pride was Berdibaeva’s performance. She won all eight of her matches, achieving a perfect score and taking first place in the individual standings for her board - earning the coveted gold medal.
