Kyrgyz, Turkish Health Officials Forge Closer Ties in Organ Transplant Cooperation

At the Kyrgyz-Turkish Friendship State Hospital in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Health Minister Erkin Checheibaev has met with Turkish Deputy Health Minister Nurullah Okumus to discuss strengthening bilateral healthcare cooperation, focusing on organ transplantation and the implementation of modern medical treatments in Kyrgyzstan.

A central topic was the training of national medical personnel, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

Checheibaev emphasized that the aim is not only to conduct joint operations but also to develop local expertise in transplantation.

“It is crucial that Kyrgyz specialists not only participate in joint surgeries but also gain high-quality training and practical experience at leading centers in Türkiye. We must prepare our own surgeons, nurses, and pre- and post-operative specialists to independently perform complex kidney and other organ transplants in the near future,” he said.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the postoperative condition of a donor and recipient who underwent a successful kidney transplant on August 18 performed by Turkish doctors. Another transplant is scheduled for August 19. All operations for Kyrgyz citizens are free of charge, funded by the national budget.

The Turkish delegation expressed its readiness to conduct joint surgeries and provide comprehensive training for the Kyrgyz transplant team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and specialists in postoperative care.
