Kyrgyz Wrestler Wins Bronze at World Wrestling Championships

Kyrgyz athlete Asan Zhanyshov has earned a bronze medal at the World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships, marking a standout performance for the Central Asian nation.

Competing in the 87 kg weight category, Zhanyshov secured the bronze by defeating Hungary’s athlete David Losonczi in a closely contested match that ended 4:2, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Zhanyshov’s journey to the podium began with early-round victories against opponents from Türkiye and Azerbaijan. Despite a loss to an Iranian wrestler-who went on to reach the final-Zhanyshov earned a second chance through the repechage bracket. He capitalized on the opportunity by overcoming competitors from Germany and Hungary, ultimately advancing to the bronze medal match.

This medal marks Kyrgyzstan’s sole podium finish in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2025 championships.

Elsewhere, Kyrgyz wrestler Razzak Beishekeyev fell short in his bronze medal bout, losing 5:15 to Armenian athlete Slavik Galstyan.

The championship brought together the world’s top wrestling talent and continues serving as a major benchmark in the international wrestling calendar.
