Kyrgyzstan’s Capital Enters World’s Top 5 Polluted Cities

Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek has once again ranked among the world’s five most polluted major cities, according to international air quality monitoring data based on the current Air Quality Index (AQI).

In the latest ranking, the capital of Kyrgyzstan placed fourth with an AQI of 236 - a level classified as “very unhealthy.” Such readings indicate a serious deterioration in air quality and heightened risks to public health, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

The cities with the highest air pollution levels at present are led by Cairo, Egypt, which topped the list with an AQI of 369. Delhi, India, followed with 256, while Lahore, Pakistan, ranked third at 254. Bishkek came next with 236, and Dhaka, Bangladesh, rounded out the top five with an AQI of 213.

Health experts warn that exposure to such polluted air can be especially dangerous for children, the elderly, and people suffering from chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. Prolonged exposure may worsen existing illnesses and increase the risk of new health problems.

Residents are advised to limit time spent outdoors whenever possible, avoid physical activity in open air, and use protective masks to reduce exposure to harmful pollutants.
