Kyrgyzstan to Launch Central Asia’s First Energy Competence Center

Kyrgyzstan is set to become a regional energy hub with a major new initiative that could reshape workforce training across Central Asia.

The country will open the first-ever energy competence center in the region, designed to train highly qualified specialists not only for domestic needs but also for neighboring countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

The idea was unveiled during the Energoprom international forum in Kazan, where key agreements were signed to bring the project to life.

In a strategic move, the National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan and Grid Company of Tatarstan agreed to cooperate on developing and introducing cutting-edge technologies - including live-line maintenance, which allows power grids to be serviced without shutting down electricity.

At the core of the initiative is the creation of a specialized training center in Kyrgyzstan. The facility will offer both basic and advanced training programs for energy sector professionals, assisting to modernize skills across the region.

The project also envisages the development of a legal and regulatory framework tailored to national conditions, while introducing modern methods for uninterrupted operation of electrical systems.

This ambitious plan is part of a broader roadmap for 2025-2027 under the cooperation agreement between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Tatarstan, originally signed on December 15, 2017.

Once launched, the center is expected to position Kyrgyzstan as a key player in energy education and innovation across Central Asia.
