Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan rank among the countries with the lowest cost of living in the world, according to the latest data from international analytics platform Numbeo.
Kyrgyzstan placed 140th out of 155 nations, with a cost of living index of 27.3 points, indicating some of the lowest prices worldwide, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
New York was used as the comparison base, set at 100 points. The lower the index, the cheaper life is. The ranking considered housing, utilities, food, restaurants, and purchasing power.

Overall cost of living index: 27.3 points
Rent index: 12 points (affordable housing)
Cost of living with rent: 20.4 points
Food prices: 27.6 points
Restaurants and cafes: 23.6 points
Purchasing power: 40.6 points
Despite low prices, the country’s purchasing power remains limited, reflecting modest incomes for most residents.

Kazakhstan: 128th (29.8) - highest purchasing power in the region
Tajikistan: 136th (27.9)
Uzbekistan: 138th (27.3)
Kyrgyzstan: 140th (27.3)
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan show similar price levels, though Kyrgyzstan lags behind Kazakhstan on several indicators.
Globally, the most expensive countries are Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and the Virgin Islands, while countries with the lowest cost of living include Pakistan, India, and Libya.
Experts note that low prices don’t necessarily mean high well-being-purchasing power is crucial to understanding how comfortably residents can cover everyday expenses.
