Public Sector in Kyrgyzstan Gets Longer New Year Break

Kyrgyzstan is giving public sector employees extra time to celebrate the New Year, as the Cabinet of Ministers has approved an extension of the holiday period to include January 8 and 9, 2026.

The decision applies to employees of state and municipal institutions, organizations, and enterprises financed from the state budget, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Authorities say the move is aimed at strengthening family values and giving parents more opportunities to spend time with their children during the winter school holidays.

The resolution was adopted in line with Articles 13 and 17 of the Constitutional Law “On the Cabinet of Ministers.” Private-sector employers have been encouraged to consider adopting a similar approach to help employees better balance work and family life.

The document was signed by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and will take effect on January 1, 2026. Notably, an earlier proposal by the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration suggested compensating the additional days off by shifting working days to February 7 and April 25, 2026. However, this requirement was ultimately dropped, meaning the extra holidays will not need to be made up later.
