Altai Territory of the Russian Federation and Kyrgyzstan’s Osh region will develop a new action plan to expand bilateral cooperation.
The agreement was discussed during talks between Altai Territory Governor Viktor Tomenko and a visiting delegation from Osh, who arrived in Barnaul to take part in the “Day of the Siberian Field - 2025” agro-industrial forum, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
"This year, we are concluding our current three-year cooperation plan, and we already see the areas where we will continue moving forward," Tomenko stated. "Altai grain-based products are in demand in Kyrgyzstan, while fruits and vegetables from Kyrgyzstan are highly valued by residents of our region."
The delegation from Kyrgyzstan was led by Elchibek Jantaev, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Osh region. The visit coincided with the major agricultural forum, which serves as a platform for leading producers, machinery manufacturers, experts, and policymakers to share experience and chart the future of the agro-industrial sector.
During the discussions, both parties highlighted the long-term and productive partnership established in 2011 through a cooperation agreement encompassing trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural spheres.
In 2024, trade between the two regions demonstrated positive momentum. Major exports from Altai Territory to Kyrgyzstan include wheat, livestock, timber, agricultural machinery, as well as products from the milling and dairy industries. Imports from Osh include vegetables, glass, aluminum items, and dairy products.
Tomenko reaffirmed Altai Territory’s commitment to expanding collaboration with Osh region, noting the mutual benefits and growth potential across key economic areas.
