Russia Sends Humanitarian Aid to Support Kyrgyz Families

The Kyrgyz Ministry of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration has stated that a new shipment of humanitarian aid from the Russian Federation arrived in Kyrgyzstan.

The consignment, totaling more than 1,280 tons of food, will be distributed to vulnerable families through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), The Caspian Post informs, citing Kyrgyz media.

More than 5,000 low-income families are set to receive fortified flour and vegetable oil. In exchange, participants will assist with the restoration of irrigation networks, water supply systems, tree planting, and riverbank reinforcement, and take part in training on modern agricultural methods and self-employment skills.

“These initiatives are designed not only to provide food assistance but also to boost community resilience to climate risks and create new employment opportunities,” the ministry stated.

Currently, 25.7 per cent of Kyrgyzstan’s population-over 1.8 million people-live below the poverty line, with most residing in rural areas.

The Russian Federation remains the largest donor to the WFP in Kyrgyzstan. Over the past 15 years, Russia and the WFP have provided extensive support, ranging from emergency aid to the development of social protection programs, including the national school feeding initiative.
