WHO Provides Kyrgyzstan with Laboratory Equipment to Strengthen Disease Surveillance

The World Health Organization in Kyrgyzstan has provided the Ministry of Health with the necessary laboratory equipment worth more than 8 million soms to strengthen infectious disease surveillance and the country's laboratory capacity.

According to the organization's press service, this contribution is aimed at strengthening Kyrgyzstan's ability to effectively identify, prevent and respond to outbreaks of infectious diseases, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

The equipment set includes laminar boxes to ensure microbiological safety, refrigerators for storing serological and PCR tests, steam sterilizers and much more. The transferred equipment will facilitate laboratory diagnostics of a wide range of infectious diseases, including measles, hepatitis, especially dangerous infections, etc.

The purchase of laboratory equipment was made possible within the framework of the regional project of the One Health Pandemic Fund; the initiative is in line with global efforts to strengthen health security and pandemic preparedness.

WHO Representative in Kyrgyzstan Liviu Vedrasco emphasized the importance of this initiative: “The transferred equipment is a long-term investment in the health system of Kyrgyzstan. It ensures increased capacity of health laboratories for timely diagnosis and outbreak response.”

The chief physicians of public health institutions who received the laboratory equipment expressed their gratitude to WHO: “Thanks to the new equipment, our laboratories are now better prepared to protect public health and quickly respond to potential outbreaks. We are deeply grateful to WHO for its ongoing support and partnership.” WHO continuously supports the health system in Kyrgyzstan by providing technical assistance and strengthening laboratory capacity to improve preparedness and response to health emergencies.
