Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has alleged that France is preparing to send up to 2,000 soldiers, including stormtroopers from the French Foreign Legion, to Ukraine.
According to the SVR, many of these legionnaires come from Latin American countries and are reportedly stationed near the Polish-Ukrainian border for intensive combat training, with plans to move them to central Ukraine soon, The Caspian Post reports via Turkish media.
The SVR also claimed that French hospitals are expanding capacity with hundreds of additional beds and training medical staff to handle battlefield conditions. In case of leaks, Paris is expected to frame the operation as a training mission for Ukrainian forces rather than a full deployment.
In a pointed statement, the SVR criticized President Emmanuel Macron, likening his ambitions to Napoleon’s failed Russian campaign and warning that history punishes those who ignore its lessons.
While unconfirmed, the claims add to growing tensions over Western support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
