Ukraine Carries Out Long-Range Drone Strike on Russia’s Orsk Refinery

The Ukrainian Security Service’s “A” Special Operations Center has conducted a long-range strike on the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery located in Orsk, in Russia’s Orenburg region, hitting the target from approximately 1,400 kilometers away.

Following the attack, thick plumes of black smoke were observed rising above the refinery, prompting an evacuation of people from the facility. Local authorities in Orsk have called on residents to stay calm, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Orsknefteorgsintez is a major refinery with an annual processing capacity of 6.6 million tons of crude oil. It operates four primary refining units and produces around 30 different products, including gasoline, diesel, lubricants, aviation kerosene, bitumen, and fuel oil.

The Ukrainian Security Service highlighted that these targeted strikes on Russia’s oil and gas infrastructure are intended to undermine the Russian economy.

“Reducing oil dollar revenues directly affects Russia’s ability to finance its ongoing war against Ukraine. Currently, around 40 per cent of Russia’s refinery capacities are idle, and we will continue making efforts to increase this percentage,” the Ukrainian Security Service said.
