An Azur Air aircraft was compelled to return to its departure airport shortly after takeoff while operating flight ZF-2620 from Fukuoka to Kazan, following an engine-related incident reported by passengers.
According to eyewitness, several loud bangs were heard moments after the aircraft became airborne, The Caspian Post reports, citing the Telegram channel Baza.
Passengers also reported seeing flashes of fire coming from one of the engines. In response to the situation, the flight crew opted not to proceed with the journey and initiated a return to the airport.
Those on board said the aircraft circled above the island for approximately 50 minutes before making a safe landing back at the departure airport. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.
After landing, passengers recorded video footage that they said showed damage to the aircraft’s left landing gear. According to their accounts, the wheels appeared to be punctured, and smoke could be seen rising from the area.
The aircraft has since been withdrawn from service for a detailed technical inspection. Meanwhile, passengers remain at the airport awaiting further updates regarding arrangements for their onward travel.
