Deadly Russian Missile and Drone Attack Hits Ukraine's Kyiv

At least four people were killed and 19 others injured in Kyiv after Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack across Ukraine.

The strike hit multiple districts of the capital, damaging residential buildings and critical infrastructure, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Among the dead was a paramedic who was killed while responding to the aftermath of an initial strike. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the medic died in what authorities described as a “double-tap” attack, when emergency workers came under fire while assisting victims. Four other paramedics were injured in the Darnytskyi district. Of the 19 people wounded overall, 14 were hospitalized, Klitschko confirmed.

Several parts of Kyiv were affected, including the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts. Residential buildings in the Pechersk and Desnianskyi districts sustained damage from drones and falling debris, while a fire broke out in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

Explosions were first reported around 11:45 p.m. (GMT+2) as Ukrainian air defense systems engaged incoming aerial targets. Earlier in the evening, Ukraine’s air force had warned of a ballistic missile threat and reported drones moving toward the capital.

A second nationwide missile alert was issued at approximately 2:13 a.m. after Ukrainian forces detected Russian fighter jets taking off. Around 3:00 a.m., additional cruise missile explosions rocked Kyiv, as the overnight assault continued.

A residential building in Kyiv’s well-known Comfort Town apartment complex caught fire following the attack. In several areas, running water and electricity were disrupted after strikes on critical infrastructure, Klitschko said.

In the Darnytskyi district, a drone crashed into the courtyard of a residential building, damaging a nearby one-story store and shattering windows in a nine-story apartment block. In the Dniprovskyi district, fires broke out in two residential buildings.

Shockwaves from the blasts damaged the roof of another residential building, while drone debris fell onto a children’s playground. In the Pechersk district, falling drone fragments partially destroyed the facade of a nine-story residential building and damaged a nearby non-residential high-rise.

In Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district, the attack also damaged the grounds of a shopping center and a sanatorium. Authorities continued to assess the aftermath as emergency crews worked through the night to contain fires and assist residents.
