Drone Attack Triggers Oil Depot Fire in Russia's Volgograd

Russian authorities in Volgograd Oblast reported that a drone attack overnight on January 10 caused a fire at an oil facility in the Oktyabrsky district.

According to officials, debris from a drone that was shot down fell onto the grounds of an oil depot, igniting a blaze at the site, The Caspian Post reports, citing The Kyiv Independent.

Volgograd Oblast Governor Andrey Bocharov said Russian air defense units were responding to what he described as a drone attack targeting the region.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and municipal services, were dispatched to contain the fire. Local authorities also said a temporary evacuation center had been set up at a nearby school in case residents needed to be relocated.

Preliminary information indicates that no casualties were reported.

Ukraine has frequently carried out long-range strikes against military and industrial targets inside Russia, largely using domestically produced drones. Russia’s oil and gas infrastructure has increasingly come under attack as Kyiv seeks to disrupt what it views as Moscow’s main source of funding for the war in Ukraine.

Volgograd is located about 354 kilometers (220 miles) from Ukraine's eastern border with Russia and approximately 500 kilometers (310 miles) from Ukrainian-controlled territory near Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast.
