A wave of drone attacks struck multiple regions across Russia, igniting a major fire at a key oil refinery in Krasnodar Territory and forcing the temporary shutdown of several airports, in one of the most disruptive incidents in recent months.

One of the primary targets was the Ilsky oil refinery, a strategically important facility located near the Black Sea, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Explosions were reported near the site before a large fire broke out, sending emergency crews rushing to contain the blaze. The refinery processes more than six million tons of oil annually and plays a vital role in fuel logistics due to its proximity to major export routes and ports.

Regional authorities confirmed that Krasnodar Territory had come under attack but did not provide detailed information on the extent of the damage or the specific facilities affected. Meanwhile, pro-government Telegram channels claimed that Russian air defense systems shot down more than 20 drones over the region, though these reports have not been independently verified.

Residents near the settlement of Ilsky described hearing multiple explosions shortly before the fire erupted. Emergency services worked through the night to prevent the flames from spreading to critical infrastructure.

The attacks also disrupted civil aviation. Airports in Krasnodar, Sochi, and Gelendzhik suspended flights for several hours as a precaution, while air raid sirens sounded in cities including Novorossiysk and Slavyansk-na-Kuban.

Drone activity was also reported in the Republic of Tatarstan, where explosions were heard near Kazan and in the industrial city of Nizhnekamsk. Residents reported localized power outages following the blasts, prompting temporary flight suspensions at regional airports as authorities assessed the situation.

Krasnodar Territory holds strategic importance due to its location between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and its role as a key hub for energy exports and logistics.
