Russian attacks on Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region have injured at least four people and damaged critical medical infrastructure, escalating concerns over repeated strikes on civilian targets.
Regional governor Oleh Hryhoriv reported that a Russian drone struck healthcare infrastructure in the city of Sumy. The attack marked the second time in one week that medical facilities in the region were targeted, raising alarm over the safety of essential services, The Caspian Post reports via Hryhoriv's message on Telegram.
Civilians Wounded as Strikes Spread Across Communities
Later on February 15, additional strikes hit the Okhtyrka community, injuring three civilians, including two women and one man. In a separate incident, a 43-year-old woman was hospitalized after a Russian strike hit a civilian vehicle in the Velykopysarivka area.
Ukraine’s Air Force issued repeated warnings throughout the day, alerting residents to the threat of incoming drones across multiple settlements in the Sumy region. Officials have not yet disclosed the exact types of weapons used or the full extent of the injuries.
Wave of Nationwide Attacks Intensifies Pressure
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia launched a massive wave of aerial attacks over the past week, including around 1,300 attack drones, more than 1,200 guided bombs, and approximately 50 missiles-many of them ballistic.
Zelenskyy said that the strikes targeted not only Ukraine’s energy infrastructure but also civilian areas, increasing pressure on communities already facing ongoing security threats.
