Pilots of the F-35I Adir fighter jets used by the Israeli Air Force are equipped with a high-tech helmet that allows them to effectively “see through the aircraft”.
The advanced helmet system-designed for the Israeli version of the fifth-generation Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II-projects critical flight and combat information directly onto the pilot’s visor, The Caspian Post reports via foreign website.
Each helmet is custom-built to match the pilot’s head shape, ensuring a secure fit during high-intensity maneuvers.
Valued at more than $400,000 per unit, the helmet integrates data from multiple onboard systems. In the F-35I variant, the upgraded model can also connect with additional Israeli-developed technologies installed on the aircraft.
The helmet’s display uses two miniature projectors to present real-time data and imagery from the jet’s cameras and sensors, enabling pilots to view what is happening outside the aircraft-even beneath it-without needing to look through the cockpit.
