Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has announced that he will meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 23, saying the talks could provide greater insight into Washington's position on Ukraine and other key international issues.

Speaking after ASEAN-related events in the Philippines, Lavrov said the meeting had already been agreed upon after he briefly spoke with Rubio during a diplomatic reception, The Caspian Post reports via TASS.

"We confirmed yesterday that the meeting will take place tomorrow morning. I hope we will be able to share our impressions afterward," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister noted that he intends to ask Rubio about recent remarks by US President Donald Trump suggesting that a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine could be reached soon. Lavrov added that the discussions would be "useful in any case."

Lavrov also said Moscow believes the United States has not abandoned the proposals discussed in Anchorage, while reiterating Russia's position that the US is directly involved in providing targeting support for Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, including civilian infrastructure.

Beyond Ukraine, Lavrov said he plans to discuss broader international security issues. He expressed Russia's hope for an end to hostilities around the Strait of Hormuz, warning that continued fighting is affecting the global economy.

He also commented on the US-Saudi agreement on cooperation in civilian nuclear technology, which could allow Saudi Arabia to develop uranium enrichment capabilities. Lavrov said Saudi Arabia does not require US permission to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
