Russian FM Arrives in Manila for Key ASEAN Meetings

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has arrived in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, to take part in a series of high-level ASEAN meetings, with a potential meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio drawing international attention.

Lavrov will remain in Manila through July 23, participating in the Russia-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the East Asia Summit, and the ASEAN Regional Forum on Security, The Caspian Post reports via TASS.

During the meetings, the Russian delegation is expected to present its assessment of the security situation in the Asia-Pacific region and discuss what Moscow describes as the growing risks of the region's militarization with international counterparts.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova previously said Moscow was working on arranging a meeting between Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the ASEAN events. Rubio has also expressed readiness to meet with the Russian foreign minister during his visit to Manila, where he is scheduled to stay until July 23.
