Russia has resumed strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following the expiration of a temporary energy truce, Ukrainian officials said, triggering power outages and emergency electricity restrictions across several regions.
Ukraine’s Deputy Energy Minister Artem Nekrasov said that Russia’s attacks damaged energy facilities in Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy, leaving parts of those areas without electricity. Repair crews are working to restore power, The Caspian Post reports via the Ukrainian Energy Ministry.
Authorities also confirmed electricity shortages in Kyiv and the surrounding region. Officials warned that scheduled hourly power outages could be reintroduced once the grid stabilizes.
Separately, more than 160 settlements in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad remain without electricity due to severe weather combined with ongoing pressure on the power grid.
Energy workers are operating around the clock to repair damaged transmission lines and restore supply. Emergency power cuts have already been introduced in some areas to prevent further strain on the system.
The renewed attacks follow a short-lived energy truce. On January 29, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to refrain from striking Kyiv and other cities for one week.
Analysts say the pause may have given Russia time to rebuild stocks of drones and missiles, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of Ukraine’s energy system, which has been repeatedly targeted since the start of the war. Ukrainian authorities continue to urge residents to conserve electricity as repair efforts continue.
