Russian forces have launched a large-scale drone attack on Cherkasy and surrounding areas, sparking fires and injuring several civilians.
Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, said that multiple drones struck targets across the region, including locations within the regional capital, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
The strikes triggered fires at several sites, prompting the rapid deployment of emergency and rescue services.
Taburets described the night as particularly difficult, noting that air defense units and emergency responders worked simultaneously to repel the attack and deal with its consequences. Preliminary reports indicate that at least four people were injured, while all relevant services remain on the ground to assess damage and provide assistance.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the full extent of damage to residential buildings or infrastructure, urging residents to remain cautious as response operations continue.
The latest assault comes amid a series of repeated drone and missile attacks on the Cherkasy region in recent months. On December 24, a reported missile strike damaged monuments and the Alley of Heroes at a local cemetery, while a drone attack on December 18 hit critical infrastructure, causing power outages and damaging at least 15 residential buildings. Earlier, an August 30 strike set off fires and damaged a local lyceum.
Ukrainian officials continue to warn that drone and missile threats remain high across multiple regions of Ukraine, urging civilians to strictly follow air raid alerts and safety instructions as the conflict continues.
