The Bushehr nuclear power plant project in Iran remains a key priority for Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Chief Executive Officer Alexey Likhachev told journalists.
“We treat our customers with deep respect. Of course, we have not removed the Bushehr plant from our list of priorities. Work continues at our metallurgical and engineering facilities on the equipment required for the project. Despite the difficulties, Bushehr remains a priority, and we will continue working on it,” Likhachev said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
He stressed that Russia’s primary concern is finding a resolution to Iran’s nuclear issue.
“We welcome efforts to find compromises and support oversight, including by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), of what is taking place. However, the IAEA must assume a certain level of responsibility and act in the interests of all sides and all participants in this conflict. This is a very important role, and it should not be aligned with only one side, regardless of how many parties are involved,” he said.
Likhachev also noted that Rosatom is advancing agreements, including partnerships with local companies, to develop a fleet of floating nuclear power plants in Indonesia.
In addition, he said the company has submitted proposals to the Philippines covering large-scale, small-scale and floating nuclear power plants, with decisions on the projects expected to be made at the intergovernmental level.
