Trips to Thailand booked by Russian tourists through the end of the year could face disruptions amid a rise in reported COVID-19 cases.

Some Russian travelers who have already paid for holidays at Thai resorts between October and December have reportedly been warned about possible problems with their trips as infections increase, according to Russian media outlet SHOT.

The tours have not been canceled at this stage, but the situation remains uncertain and could change. Vietnam is already being offered to some travelers as an alternative destination in Asia.

Thailand has officially recorded 135,700 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the year, with nearly 65,000 reported between August 9 and September 8 alone.

The highest numbers have been recorded in major tourist destinations, including Pattaya, Bangkok and Phuket. Twenty-six people have reportedly died from the virus since the start of the year.

Thai authorities have linked the increase in infections to the rainy season.

Despite the rise in cases, there are currently no restrictions for international visitors. Resorts, hotels and tourist attractions across Thailand continue to operate normally.
