Turkish authorities have arrested six suspects-one Iranian national and five Turkish citizens-in a coordinated operation across five provinces over allegations of political and military espionage linked to Iran’s intelligence services, officials said.
The operation was carried out under the direction of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, in coordination with the Istanbul Police Counter-Terrorism Division and the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkish media.
According to the case file, investigators determined that the suspects were in direct contact with intelligence officers affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Authorities said the group gathered sensitive information on Turkish military facilities, including the strategically significant Incirlik Air Base (Incirlik Air Base) in the southern province of Adana, as well as other high-value locations in Türkiye and in third countries. The suspects are also accused of providing logistical support related to these activities.
Officials said the group conducted reconnaissance and surveillance operations targeting Incirlik, took part in the smuggling of unmanned aerial vehicles through Türkiye for intended use against third countries, and transmitted the intelligence they collected directly to IRGC handlers.
Simultaneous raids were carried out in Istanbul, Van, Samsun, Yalova, and Ankara, resulting in the arrests.
Following procedures at provincial security directorates, the suspects were referred to court and remanded in custody on charges of political and military espionage, officials said.
