Türkiye has officially revealed its first hypersonic missile, the Tayfun Block-4, during the IDEF 2025 international defense exhibition in Istanbul, where defense contractor Roketsan also showcased six new advanced weapon systems.
The Tayfun Block-4 is the hypersonic upgrade of the Tayfun missile, Türkiye’s longest-range domestically produced ballistic missile, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
According to Roketsan, "The Tayfun Block-4 achieves long ranges, setting another record for the Turkish defense industry. Weighing over 7 tons, this new version of the Tayfun, with its multi-purpose warhead, will be capable of destroying numerous strategic targets, such as air defense systems, command and control centers, military hangars, and critical military facilities, from kilometers away."
Among the new systems introduced, the Atmaca missile equipped with the Akata capsule represents the submarine-launched variant of the Atmaca anti-ship missile, already in use by the Turkish Armed Forces, with a range of 250 kilometers (155 miles). Roketsan highlighted, "Equipped with cutting-edge technology, Akata will strengthen the defense of the Blue Homeland with a range exceeding 250 kilometers and a high-explosive fragmentation warhead."
The Gokbora missile, a beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile, can engage enemy targets at distances exceeding 100 nautical miles (115 miles). It is designed for deployment on both manned and unmanned combat aircraft platforms.
Roketsan also introduced Eren, a high-speed, multi-purpose loitering munition capable of targeting slow-moving airborne units, armored and unarmored ground targets, and personnel. Launchable from armed UAVs, helicopters, land vehicles, ground-based systems, and naval platforms, Eren offers advanced guidance, long endurance, and a range surpassing 100 kilometers.
The 300 Er air-launched ballistic missile system can be integrated into jet fighters and armed UAVs. Depending on the release altitude and speed, it can strike strategic targets beyond 500 kilometers while keeping the launch platform out of enemy air defense threat zones.
Additionally, Roketsan presented the Simsek-2 satellite launch vehicle, capable of placing satellites weighing up to 1,500 kilograms (3,307 pounds) into sun-synchronous orbits above 700 kilometers altitude. The company plans to conduct the first launch test of the Simsek-1 vehicle in 2027.
Roketsan CEO Murat Ikinci stated, "Today, our company, a global brand in rocket, missile, and ammunition technologies, continues to pioneer new technologies with its R&D studies, to be the striking and deterrent force of the Turkish Armed Forces with the defense systems it develops, and to provide strategic and economic strength to our country with its exports to many regions of the world, from America to Europe, from Asia to the Middle East."
He added, "At IDEF, we participated with over 60 defense systems that have proven their success in the field, stand out from their competitors in terms of performance, and are in the inventories of many modern armies, especially the Turkish Armed Forces. We are also launching six new products at IDEF, once again demonstrating our progress in defense technology."
The six-day IDEF defense fair, commencing Tuesday, is held simultaneously at Istanbul Fair Center, Ataturk Airport, WOW Hotel, and Atakoy Marina. Organized by KFA Fairs with support from Türkiye’s Defense Industries Secretariat (SSB) and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, the event’s global communication partner is Anadolu.
This 17th edition of IDEF hosts ministers, chiefs of staff, commanders, and senior representatives from 103 countries, with 44 nations exhibiting stalls. The exhibition features over 900 domestic and 400 international defense companies.
