Azerbaijan Announces Squad for 2026 Turkic Men’s and Women’s Team Chess Championships

Azerbaijani chess players are set to compete at the Turkic Men’s and Women’s Team Chess Championships 2026, starting in Astana on May 14.

Azerbaijan will compete in both the men’s and women’s categories of the tournament, The Caspian Post reports, citing AZERTAC.

The men’s team includes Ahmad Ahmadzade, Misratdin Iskandarov, Khazar Babazade, Shiroghlan Talibov, and Murad Ibrahimli, with Gadir Huseynov serving as team captain.

In the women’s competition, Azerbaijan will be represented by Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Gunay Mammadzada, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, and Gulnar Mammadova. The team will be captained by Ilaha Gadimova.

The event will also feature an under-16 championship. Azerbaijan’s U-16 team, led by captain Farid Abbasov, will comprise Khagan Ahmad, Shamsi Garakhanov, Pasham Alizade, and Lala Huseynova.

Running through May 17, the tournament will bring together top teams from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan.
