Kazakhstan’s Akzhol Kurmanbek claimed gold medal at the 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships ongoing in Doha, Qatar.
The athlete competing in the men’s 73kg lifted a total of 316kg (141kg in the snatch+175kg in the clean and jerk), breaking world record in the clean and jerk, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
Boburmirzo Yokubov from Uzbekistan secured silver medal having lifted 300kg (136+164), and Didarbek Jumnabayev from Turkmenistan took bronze medal lifting 298kg (127+171).
Kazakh male weightlifters also excelled in 67kg weight division, while female athletes showed high results in 64kg and 71kg weight groups.
Men’s 67kg
Yersultan Turssynbekov: 128kg in the snatch - 2nd place (silver), 150kg in the clean and jerk -5th place, 278kg in total - 4th place.
Women’s 64kg
Altynay Tanibergenova: 84kg in the snatch - 2nd place (silver), 108kg in the clean and jerk - 2nd place (silver), 192kg in total - silver medal.
Women’s 71kg
Kira Danilova: 89kg in the snatch - 1st place (gold), 110kg in the clean and jerk - 2nd place (silver), 299kg in total - silver medal.
Bibinur Ysmynova: 75kg in the snatch - 3rd place (bronze), 95kg in the clean and jerk - 3rd place (bronze), 170kg in total - bronze medal.
