Renowned Uzbek Wrestler Stabbed to Death During Tournament

A well-known wrestler was killed during a kurash competition in Uzbekistan following a violent altercation at a sporting event in the Denau district of the Surkhandarya region.

The incident took place on May 9 at the stadium of the Denau Medical College, where a large-scale kurash wrestling tournament was being held, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The victim was identified as renowned pakhlavan Nizomiddin Chutboev.

Reports said the confrontation began after Chutboev’s son, Ayubkhan Khurramov, defeated wrestler Bustanbek Jabborov during one of the competition rounds.

Following the defeat, Bustanbek’s older brother, Doston Jabborov, allegedly became enraged and approached Nizomiddin Chutboev from behind before stabbing him multiple times.

Khayot Shamsutdinov, head of the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, confirmed that Chutboev was taken to the district medical center with serious injuries. Despite intensive medical treatment, he later died.

Preliminary forensic findings showed that the victim suffered four serious stab wounds.

Later that day, the Denau District Prosecutor’s Office launched a criminal case against Doston Jabborov under Article 97, Part 2, Item “l” of the Criminal Code, which concerns premeditated murder committed for hooligan motives. The suspect was detained under Article 221 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The district prosecutor’s office is continuing its preliminary investigation into the case.

According to the Kun.uz source, Doston Jabborov has a previous criminal record and is reportedly known in the district for aggressive behavior.
