CSTO Convenes Special Session on Enhancing Tajikistan-Afghanistan Border Security

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has held a special meeting to discuss enhancing security along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border in response to rising regional concerns.

The session, held Friday at the CSTO Secretariat, brought together government representatives from member states and coordinators of the intergovernmental program focused on reinforcing the Tajikistan-Afghanistan frontier, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media.

Valery Semerikov, acting Secretary‑General of the CSTO, attended the meeting and stressed the importance of safeguarding border security in Central Asia’s vulnerable southern corridor.

Tajikistan, serving as the program’s main coordinator, presented a report on the first phase of the initiative. Delegates approved a final list of weapons, military equipment, and technical tools needed for enhanced border protection.

These supplies will be produced by CSTO member states according to their capacities and then delivered to Tajik border forces for deployment.

Strengthening Tajikistan’s southern border, which adjoins Taliban‑controlled Afghanistan, remains a key priority for the CSTO as it seeks to prevent cross‑border threats and instability.

This coordinated effort signals a stronger commitment among CSTO members to regional security, aiming to shield Central Asia from potential spillover effects of Afghanistan’s ongoing turmoil.

meanwhile, the meeting underscores how multilateral action and resource sharing are crucial to building a secure border and maintaining stability in a fragile geopolitical landscape.
