Director: Tajikistan’s Dushanbe Airport Breaks Ground on New Passenger Terminal

Director of Tajikistan’s Dushanbe International Airport, Zainullo Sharifzoda, has announced the official launch of construction on a new passenger terminal.

Sharifzoda made these remarks during a press conference, The Caspian Post reports, citing Tajik media.

The new terminal, aimed at expanding the airport’s capacity and improving passenger experience, is being developed with the support of Turkish experts responsible for the project’s design and technical documentation.

Sharifzoda noted that the terminal is expected to be completed and operational within one to two years.

In parallel, dedicated zones for people accompanying and receiving travelers are also being constructed. These new areas, designed to enhance comfort and accessibility, will be equipped to accommodate visitors in both hot and cold weather conditions.

“They will offer convenience regardless of the season,” Sharifzoda stated.

Since May 2025, access to the airport terminal for accompanying persons has been restricted in accordance with international aviation safety standards, as well as sanitary regulations and public order protocols. These measures are also part of efforts to limit the spread of infectious diseases.

The current development marks the airport’s first major expansion since September 3, 2014, when a new terminal was inaugurated on Tajikistan’s Civil Aviation Day. That project was implemented by French construction company Vinci S.A. with the support of the French Embassy and in coordination with the Tajik government, following an agreement signed in April 2009.
