Nearly half of Tajikistan’s imports originate from member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Russia and Kazakhstan remain the country’s leading EAEU trade partners, The Caspian Post reports per Tajik media.
In the first half of 2025, Tajikistan’s top import sources were:
Russia - 26.9 per cent of total imports
China - 26.2 per cent
Kazakhstan - 14.2 per cent
Uzbekistan - 5.1 per cent
Iran - 4.6 per cent
Belarus - 2.7 per cent
South Korea - 2.5 per cent
Türkiye - 2.3 per cent
Key imports include oil products, passenger cars, liquefied natural gas, wheat, lumber, sugar, aluminum, vegetable oil, fresh produce, mineral fertilizers, and flour.
The possibility of Tajikistan joining the EAEU is still under review by an interagency working group, which has been assessing the economic and political implications of membership since 2015.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly underlined the need to deepen cooperation between Tajikistan and EAEU member states, highlighting the bloc’s successful integration projects.
Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin has said that Dushanbe is carefully evaluating the experiences of other member states, particularly Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, to assess the potential benefits and drawbacks of joining the union.
