Tajikistan has assumed the presidency of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) bodies.
Russia and Turkmenistan have become co-chairs of the CIS, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uza.uz.
At a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Moscow, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon emphasized that one of the key priorities of the country’s presidency will be improving the activities of the Commonwealth.
“We will actively work to strengthen cooperation between the CIS countries in combating security risks and threats”, Emomali Rahmon said.
Tajikistan plans to pay special attention to celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Other priorities include promoting the economic, environmental, cultural, and humanitarian agenda and developing parliamentary cooperation within the CIS.
This presidency opens up new opportunities for deepening interaction between the Commonwealth members, which is relevant in the context of modern challenges and threats.
