Tajikistan Boosts Agricultural Output

Tajikistan is expanding its agricultural production, with vegetable cultivation and greenhouse farming playing a growing role in strengthening the country’s food supply and rural economy.

Vegetables are currently being cultivated on 174.6 hectares of land across the country, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Tajikistan.

Tomatoes remain the dominant crop, covering 78.2 hectares, while cucumber plantations account for 41 hectares. Another 54.3 hectares have been allocated for the cultivation of other vegetable varieties.

Since the beginning of the year, Tajik farmers have harvested more than 3,000 tons of vegetables, including approximately 1,100 tons of tomatoes and 699 tons of cucumbers.

A key driver of production growth is the country’s expanding greenhouse network. More than 1,000 greenhouses are currently operating across Tajikistan, assisting to ensure a stable supply of fresh vegetables for the domestic market throughout the year.

The greenhouse sector has become increasingly important for food security, allowing producers to maintain output regardless of seasonal conditions.

Agriculture is a strategically important sector and measures aimed at increasing production and improving efficiency are being implemented.

The latest figures come as Tajikistan pushes ahead with broader agricultural development efforts. More than 182,000 hectares of farmland had been planted with cotton in line with established agricultural standards.

With vegetable harvests rising and greenhouse capacity expanding, Tajikistan is strengthening its position as one of Central Asia’s growing agricultural producers.
