Tajikistan’s Hydrometeorology Agency has issued a heat warning for the period from July 19 to 23.
It forecasts a significant temperature surge with daytime highs reaching up to 46°C, The Caspian Post reports, citing Tajik media.
Temperature projections for this timeframe include:
Valleys of Khatlon Region: 41°C to 46°C
Valley districts under republican jurisdiction: 39°C to 44°C
Valleys of Sughd Region: 38°C to 43°C
Foothill and mountainous areas: 35°C to 40°C
Darvoz District: 41°C to 43°C
The agency cautions that the extended heatwave, coupled with ongoing snowmelt, raises the likelihood of glacial mudflows in western parts of the Mountain-Badakhshan Autonomous Region and other mountainous zones. Such events could cause river levels to rise, threatening both local communities and infrastructure.
Residents, particularly those in mountainous and foothill areas, are urged to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant during this hazardous period.
Earlier forecasts also noted that temperature fluctuations and possible dust storms are expected across nearly all regions of Tajikistan throughout July.
