Tajikistan and India are moving to deepen industrial cooperation, with both countries exploring plans for the joint assembly of cars and electric vehicles as part of a broader manufacturing partnership.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Tajikistan’s Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir, and India’s Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, H. D. Kumaraswamy, on the sidelines of the Fourth Meeting of Industry Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Tajikistan.
The two sides reviewed several areas of potential cooperation, including:
Joint assembly of passenger vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs)
Supply of electric buses for urban transport systems
Localization of hydropower and electrical equipment manufacturing using Indian industrial expertise
Joint production of machine tools and industrial machinery
The talks are another step in strengthening the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and India, which is supported by regular dialogue between the leaders of both countries.
Beyond automotive manufacturing, the ministers also discussed cooperation in metallurgy, the development of critical mineral resources, and the training of highly skilled engineering specialists.
The discussions reflect Tajikistan’s broader efforts to attract technology, investment and industrial know-how while expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities.
If implemented, the proposed projects could help boost industrial output, support green transport initiatives and strengthen economic ties between Tajikistan and India, two countries seeking closer cooperation across key sectors of the economy.
