Tajikistan Leads Digital Leap in Oncology with New System

Experts from the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency of the Tajik National Academy of Sciences have successfully installed and launched a state-of-the-art Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) in oncology centers located in Dushanbe, Khujand, and Kulob.

The implementation was carried out in collaboration with the Republican Oncological Research Center under the Tajik Health Ministry, The Caspian Post reports per Tajik media.

This advanced PACS allows for high-quality archiving, access, sharing, and transmission of various medical imaging, including X-rays, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and other radiological diagnostics. The system significantly enhances the accuracy and timeliness of cancer diagnosis.

The adoption of the PACS aligns with international standards and greatly improves public access to modern diagnostic and treatment services in the country.

As part of the project, several oncology specialists from the centers in Dushanbe, Khujand, and Kulob received professional training abroad, acquiring expertise in advanced international methods for cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Funded by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), this initiative is expected to substantially bolster Tajikistan’s capacity to combat oncological diseases effectively.
