Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has approved a draft agreement with Russia that will establish official representations of internal affairs and migration authorities in both countries, aiming to boost cooperation on crime-fighting, migration, and citizen protection.
The agreement, published via the Ministry of Justice, will see Tajikistan open offices in Moscow, while Russia opens a representation in Dushanbe, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
These offices will work alongside local authorities, provide legal consultations, protect citizens’ rights, and coordinate action against transnational crime and illegal drug trafficking.
The representations will also support labor migration, analyze local laws, and help draft new bilateral agreements on migration and law enforcement.
Staff will be accredited by the host country’s foreign ministry and enjoy diplomatic privileges and immunities, with protections similar to embassies.
President Vladimir Putin, during his recent visit to Dushanbe, supported the move, noting it will improve transparency, trust, and cooperation by allowing Tajik law enforcement to work directly with Russian counterparts on-site.
The agreement will take effect after both sides complete domestic procedures and will remain in force indefinitely, with a six-month notice required for termination.
