The Tajik Civil Aviation Agency has announced that Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia are set to expand cooperation in civil aviation, with plans to introduce new air routes connecting cities in the two countries.
The topic was discussed by Habibullo Nazarzoda, Director of the Tajik Civil Aviation Agency, during a meeting with Waleed Abdulrahman Alreshaidan, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Dushanbe, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.
The talks focused on increasing flight frequencies, opening new routes operated by Saudi airlines, and strengthening overall cooperation in the civil aviation sector.
Currently, flights from Dushanbe to Jeddah operate twice a week, on Fridays and Sundays.
In June, the Tajik government announced the full removal of parity and mandatory equality requirements for domestic and foreign airlines. Airports in Dushanbe, Khujand, Bokhtar, and Kulob have adopted an “open skies” policy, removing restrictions on flight frequencies, seat allocations, and ticket pricing.
Temporary limitations remain in place for 18 routes for up to three years, after which they will also operate under the new regulations.
International experts have noted that the previous parity system limited competition, resulting in higher airfares and hindering the development of tourism in Tajikistan.
