Speaking at a ceremony marking the 34th anniversary of the country’s independence, Tajik Minister of Economy and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda highlighted the nation’s achievements in ensuring sustainable development and improving living standards for its citizens, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Zavqizoda noted that Tajikistan’s GDP reached 153.4 billion somoni ($16.275 billion) in 2024, representing a 2.2-fold increase over the past five years. Over this period, the average annual growth rate of the national economy was 7.7 per cent (or 8.5 per cent excluding 2020, the year affected by the COVID-19 pandemic), which is 0.7-1.5 per cent higher than the previous five-year period (2015-2019).

In the first half of 2025, macroeconomic indicators remained stable, with GDP reaching 70.8 billion somoni ($7.512 billion) and a real growth rate of 8.1 per cent. Growth during this period was largely driven by increases in production volumes across key sectors, including:

Agriculture - 9.7 per cent

Transportation - 9.3 per cent
