Tajikistan will host the 2026 session of the Agricultural Council for Europe and Central Asia, a major regional platform under the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The biennial session serves as the regional gathering of the FAO’s European Commission on Agriculture (ECA), bringing together member states to address key issues related to agriculture, food security, and regional cooperation, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.
Tajikistan, a member since 1995, will take on a leading role in convening the event.
In parallel, efforts are underway to establish the House of Tajikistan at FAO headquarters in Rome, a diplomatic and institutional initiative designed to deepen the country's engagement within the organization.
These developments were discussed during a high-level meeting in Rome between Tajikistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Qurbon Hakimzoda, and FAO Deputy Director-General Maurizio Martina. The talks took place on the sidelines of FAO’s 80th anniversary events.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, attracting greater international investment in Tajikistan’s agricultural sector, and enhancing joint efforts to promote food security and sustainable rural development.
By hosting the 2026 session, Tajikistan seeks to amplify its voice in regional agricultural policymaking and contribute meaningfully to global initiatives aimed at building more resilient and sustainable food systems.
