Three Countries Join UN Group of Friends of Neutrality 2025

In 2025, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Eswatini joined the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development, bringing the total number of participating countries to 29.

The inclusion of these states reflects growing international interest in neutrality as an effective tool for promoting peace, strengthening trust and security, and supporting sustainable development in line with the UN Charter, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.

The Group of Friends of Neutrality serves as a platform under the UN to foster broad multilateral dialogue on the practical application of neutrality principles in conflict prevention, addressing root causes and consequences of conflicts, and resolving humanitarian issues.

Turkmenistan initiated the creation of this Group to promote regular international dialogue, particularly within the United Nations, on utilizing the peacebuilding potential of countries that base their policies on neutrality.

The first meeting of the Group at the ambassadorial level was held on August 27, 2020, in New York. The first ministerial meeting of the Group took place in Ashgabat on December 10, 2022.
