The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) convened on April 17 in Moscow, where participants discussed further steps toward regional integration and future cooperation priorities.
Azerbaijan was represented at the meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov, The Caspian Post reports via the CIS Executive Committee.
Ministers exchanged views on key issues on the international agenda and cooperation within the CIS framework. Several decisions were adopted regarding two core organizations in the field of education, alongside the approval of a joint statement marking the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight.
The statement reaffirmed that the exploration and use of outer space should serve the interests of all nations and peoples.
Participants also approved a number of draft documents to be submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of State and the Council of Heads of Government for further consideration.
In addition, it was confirmed that the next CIS Foreign Ministers’ meeting will take place in October in Turkmenistan, continuing the bloc’s rotating schedule of high-level diplomatic engagements.
